My family and I are having breakfast at the table. I look outside. "Grass looks nice," I say. My father looks up, "Rats and mice?".

Lucy & Jane

So yesterday Lisa and I went with our good friends Chris and Sarah to a reptile show in Arlington, Texas. They had a bunch of different reptiles including tortoises as well as arachnids and some amphibians. Most of the stuff was out of our price range, not to mention Lisa and I would have had to buy all the stuff reptiles need, so I decided to buy the cheapest vertebrate there. Lucy and Jane are two young feeder rats I bought for a total of $2.90. Lisa had no idea we got them until it was too late.

I've done some research and know the basic caring techniques, including the need to be in a well ventilated home. However for the meantime I'm keeping them in a 10 gallon fish tank that I change their padding everyday (paper towels) and have made some make shift rooms and stuff for them to explore. For food I've given them a mix of banana, oats, strawberries, and wheat cereal bits.

Our cat and dog think they are the coolest thing in the house and have been fixated on the tank like a kid playing video games.
